The Rhemes Valley is a small jewel for ski touring, offering the possibility to choose a different destination every day, all starting from the same hut.

The variety of routes allows you to choose between easy trips for beginners or more demanding ones, with elevation gains never exceeding 1,000 meters. Most of the routes face north, which often results in powder snow lasting well into the season.

It’s important to note that there are two huts that can be used as starting points: the Benevolo Refuge, recently renovated and well managed by Mountain Guide Mathieu and his family, or the fantastic Dortoir du Fond, which can accommodate up to 20 people, with hot showers and wood-decorated rooms. Here, the definition of “plaisir” ski mountaineering finds its full meaning.

Day 1: Rhemes – Refuge Benevolo or Dortoir du Fond

Meeting at 9:00 AM with the guide in Rhemes Notre-Dame.

We’ll start with a gear check and a briefing about the week. Afterward, we’ll climb up to the Benevolo hut or the Dortoir du Fond, which are located just 200 meters from each other. The climb to the hut takes approximately 2.5 hours. If conditions and weather permit, we can do a short ski tour from the hut (Punta Palettaz).

Day 2 – 6: Daily trips

Starting from the second day, we’ll embark on a different trip each day with just a light backpack.

The list of possible destinations is quite long: Punta Galisia, Punta Calabre, Roc du Fond, Punta Basei, Granta Parey, and Roc du Fond. Returning to the hut in the early afternoon, we’ll have time for a good lunch and some recovery before the next trip.

On day 5, we’ll descend back to Rhemes after the trip, where we’ll stay in our hotel for the grand finale, the next day, for our last hike of the week!
